BostonGene is redefining cancer patient care and drug development through the integration of omnimodal data and artificial intelligence. Built and validated through an extensive real-world clinical testing network, BostonGene’s Foundation Model of cancer and the immune system integrates genomic, transcriptomic, and immune data with clinical outcomes to generate biologically grounded, actionable insights. These insights enable biopharma partners to design and de-risk trials, identify novel targets, and optimize therapeutic response prediction across all stages of development while simultaneously improving patient care through clinically integrated innovation.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Lead AI Engineer to drive the strategic development of AI/ML solutions across biological and digital pathology datasets. In this role, you will enhance the generative AI roadmap, oversee model architecture decisions, and mentor a team in building state-of-the-art single-modality (VAE, DINOv2, diffusion models) and multimodal generative systems. You will collaborate cross-functionally with scientific, engineering, and product teams to translate research problems into scalable AI-driven solutions.

Please note that this position requires relocation to Armenia (relocation support provided).

Job responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end development of generative AI systems integrating biological, imaging, and sequencing data.
  • Design foundational model architectures and ensure scientific and computational rigor.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and performance guidance to a team of ML engineers and researchers.
  • Partner with domain scientists to define target outcomes, requirements, and data strategies.
  • Drive innovation by evaluating new methodologies, proposing research directions, and leading PoCs.
  • Oversee compliance with GCP/GCLP and ensure data quality, reproducibility, and audit readiness.
  • Guide integration of LLM-based automation and/or multimodal diffusion architectures into production workflows.
  • Represent the team in cross-functional discussions.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD strongly preferred in ML, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience in ML/CV.
  • Proven track record of designing complex generative or multimodal AI systems.
  • Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong ability to translate scientific needs into AI/ML architectures and pipelines.
  • Experience leading teams, establishing processes, and driving ML strategy will be a plus.

Technical skills

  • Expert-level Python and PyTorch skills.
  • Deep specialization in generative modeling (diffusion models, VAEs, multimodal architectures).
  • Experience with large-scale biological data processing (RNAseq, xCR, digital pathology).
  • Strong grasp of MLOps, experiment tracking, and scalable model deployment.
  • Advanced statistical analysis and experimental design.
  • Experience integrating LLM-based automation and designing complex multimodal systems as a plus.
  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs and make strategic technical decisions.

What we offer:

  • Relocation support;

  • Comfortable office in the center of Yerevan, next to Barekamutyun metro station;

  • Health insurance (comprehensive coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans);

  • Flexible / hybrid work options (hybrid format, flexible hours);

  • Professional development (support for trainings, workshops, conferences, and further education);

  • Business trips (opportunities to build partnerships, attend conferences, and support the company's global presence);

  • Staff referral program (bonuses for referring suitable candidates);

  • Meals (free or subsidized meals, snacks, and beverages at the workplace).
