Job summary

The Deputy Principal at ISK is essential in supporting the Principal in managing and leading the Primary School. This role requires a dedicated educator with strong leadership abilities, a deep understanding of primary education, and the skills to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for both students and staff.

Working Conditions

  • Mon-Fri, 8:00—16:30, full-time

  • Follows ISK faculty and local state production calendar

Key responsibilities

Well-Being and Safety

  • Promote, monitor and manage school expectations for the ISK Core Values, both for students and faculty.

  • Attendance Monitoring: Oversee and ensure accurate tracking of student and staff attendance.

  • Behaviour and Discipline: Promote positive student behaviour and follow up with consequences as per the Behaviour Policy; work with students, teachers and parents to ensure behavioural expectations are well communicated, understood, and enforced. Communicate regularly with school leadership, teachers, parents and students on all matters of student behaviour and discipline.

  • Child Protection: Implement and follow child protection policies to safeguard students.

  • Health and Safety: Participate in health and safety committee meetings, promoting a safe school environment.

Communication

  • Newsletters and Bulletins: Distribute newsletters to parents and weekly bulletins to staff to keep the school community informed.

  • Morning Messages: Communicate daily messages to staff, ensuring everyone is updated on important information and events.

  • Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents, addressing their concerns and providing updates on school activities and student progress.

  • Translation Services: Assist in translating during the Principal’s meetings with parents, ensuring clear and effective communication.

  • Leadership Meetings: Attend Extended Senior Leadership Team (ESLT) meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.

  • Staff Bonuses: Collaborate with HR to track and manage staff bonus payments.

Admissions

  • Evaluate continually and redesign where appropriate together with the Admissions Officer, all aspects of the admissions and marketing program with the goal of maintaining a capacity enrollment of qualified students.

  • Admissions Testing: Administer and oversee admission tests, ensuring a fair and thorough evaluation process.

  • Interviews: Conduct interviews in conjunction with the Principal.

  • Paperwork Coordination: Work with the secretary and Principal to handle all necessary admission paperwork.

  • Transition Assistance: Assist new students and their parents in transitioning smoothly to the ISK.

  • Manage the re-enrollment of students for the succeeding year.

Academic Achievement

  • Teacher Liaison: Collaborate with teachers and the PYP Coordinator to support curriculum implementation and student learning.

  • Attend and assist in the planning of staff meetings.

  • Teacher Appraisals: Conduct teacher appraisals, providing constructive feedback and professional development support.

  • Student Evaluation Meetings: Attend meetings focused on student assessment and progress, contributing to strategies for improvement.

  • Report Cards: Review and ensure the accuracy of student report cards.

  • Performance Feedback: Communicate with parents about conditional enrollment and address issues related to student underachievement.

Recruitment

  • Recruitment Support: Assist the Principal and HR with the recruitment process, including candidate selection and interviewing, ensuring candidates align with the school’s values and educational goals.

  • Assist and mentor new teachers.

Administrative and Other Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage timetables, ensuring efficient use of resources and time.

  • Arrange cover for absent teachers, maintaining continuity in student learning.

  • Organise and oversee Friday assemblies, fostering school spirit and community. Coordinate school assemblies in conjunction with the Events Coordinator.

  • Schedule non-academic activities, such as health checks and yearbook photos in liaison with relevant stakeholders and support staff.

  • Oversee Primary Student Council.

  • Assist in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services (including psychologists, other coordinators) and uses community resources to supplement the school program.

  • Oversee student logistics, such as locker codes and coat room student use.

  • Assist in completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment and materials.

  • Review and approve field trip requests, ensuring educational value and student safety.

  • Handle and communicate reports on accidents and incidents, ensuring timely resolution and communication.

  • Assist in the updating of the ISK Handbook

  • Deputize for the Principal in his/her absence

As appropriate, the Primary Deputy Principal will be required to follow any other job related instructions and perform other job related duties directed by the Principal.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a primary school setting.

  • Proven leadership experience, including previous roles in school administration or leadership positions.

  • Advanced written and oral English and Russian language skills

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Knowledge of educational policies, IB curriculum standards, and best practices in primary education.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and community members.
