About Us:

Dynamics Scientific, Inc. is a leading R&D company specializing in the digital reliability of industrial equipment. We pride ourselves on our commitment to quality and innovation. We're seeking a talented and motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our team and help us develop state-of-the-art technology solutions.

Job Summary:

The Research Engineer specializing in Acoustic Emission (AE) is responsible for developing, implementing, and refining AE-based techniques to monitor structural integrity, detect defects, and support predictive maintenance. This role involves the design and execution of experiments that leverage AE methods to gather data, analyze results, and provide insights into material behavior under stress. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and deep expertise in AE technology to drive innovation in monitoring and diagnostic solutions.

Essential duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute AE experiments to monitor structural health, material performance, and defect growth in real-time.
  • Select and configure AE and other sensors, and data acquisition equipment based on project requirements.
  • Implement AE techniques for early-stage defect detection, fatigue analysis, and predictive maintenance.
  • Capture and interpret AE signals, applying signal processing methods to identify patterns associated with defects, fractures, and other structural changes.
  • Use analytical tools (e.g., MATLAB, RStudio, Mathcad, Python) to process raw AE data and detect significant events in real-time.
  • Analyze AE waveform characteristics, such as amplitude, frequency, and energy, to assess material integrity and support diagnostics.
  • Innovate AE methodologies to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and reliability in structural health monitoring and non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Develop algorithms and techniques to improve AE signal interpretation, event location accuracy, and noise reduction.
  • Develop software for conducting research.
  • Develop diagnostic equipment passports.
  • Work closely with design, product, and software engineering teams to integrate AE method into existing products or infrastructure.
  • Communicate findings and technical insights to non-technical stakeholders through reports, presentations, and documentation.
  • Contribute to the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards in AE testing, including ASTM, ISO, and NDT guidelines.
  • Document research methods, results, and technical procedures for reproducibility, auditability, and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain accurate records of AE experiments and protocols for future reference and potential intellectual property filings.
  • Develop and manage project plans, setting milestones for AE research initiatives and monitoring project timelines.
  • Report regularly on project status, progress, and challenges to management, ensuring timely completion of research objectives.

Education / Experience:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a related field with emphasis on Acoustic Emission or Non-Destructive Testing.
  • At least five years of experience in NDT inspections, research, or engineering roles with hands-on expertise in Acoustic Emission technology.
  • Experience in statistical data processing.
  • Certifications in NDT (e.g., Level II/III in AE per ASNT).

Qualifications/ Knowledge:

  • Fluency in English and Russian (native or bilingual).
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in working with Python, RStudio, Mathcad, and MATLAB.
  • Proficiency in measurements and digital signal processing.
  • Planning and experimenting.
  • Skilled with C/C++ and object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge and experience in acoustic emission methods for equipment diagnostics.
  • Expertise in AE instrumentation, sensor types, and data acquisition software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a related field with emphasis on Acoustic Emission or Non-Destructive Testing.
  • Knowledge of machine learning applications in signal processing and AE data interpretation.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex AE signal data.
  • Ability to manage multiple research projects, adapt methodologies, and learn new technologies quickly.
